Not widely known but Whisky has now been distilled and enjoyed in Wales since the Middle Ages, but production died out in the late 19th century. In the 1990s attempts were made to revive the practice, resulting in the establishment of Wales's first distillery in over one hundred years, Penderyn. At Penderyn, whisky and their vast spirits range isn't the only thing they do well! Their tour is great to, with a tour around the distillery, and a tasting session thrown in for good measure, it's no wonder the tourists flock to Penderyn every year. Whether you're a whisky or spirit drinker you will find a visit here to the distillery and fascinating one. I don't drink myself but I was taken a back at the long history that whisky has here in Wales and the long journey it has been on, only to now, be up there with some of the best whiskies in the world!
At the dawn of the new millennium, a group of friends from the beautiful country of Wales set out with a simple vision. As the first Welsh distillers in more than a century, we were determined to break with convention and pledge to realize our dream. Today, Penderyn is home to the award-winning Single Malt Welsh Whisky, Brecon Gin, Five Vodka and Merlyn Cream Liqueur. We offer distillery tours, enabling our visitors to experience for themselves the sights, sounds and aromas of our working distillery. Learn about the malting, mashing, fermenting, distillation and maturation processes, then try for yourself in our dedicated Tasting Bar. We also offer evening tours and corporate tours.Nestled in the Brecon Beacons, around 40 minutes from Cardiff, the distillery Visitor Centre is open to the public from 9:30am until 5pm each day, including Bank Holidays (opening hours may vary over the Christmas and New Year period).
