The Potted Hen
Since it opened, the Potted Hen in St Anne's Square has already become one of the most talked about restaurants in Belfast, winning N. Ireland restaurant of the year at the National Restaurant Awards.
This chic, bistro-style restaurant is owned by husband and wife team Dermot and Catherine Regan, who also own the popular and award-winning Oregano Restaurant in Newtownabbey.
It is the first restaurant to open in the beautiful square which is set to become one of the most sought after residential and leisure areas in the city.
The philosophy of the Potted Hen is the same as its sister restaurant - creating delicious, imaginative dishes using the freshest of ingredients in a relaxed and friendly setting.
Both Dermot and Catherine are deeply passionate about what they do and want the food to be the main focus - to speak for itself.
The interior is modern yet welcoming and comfortable, with plain wooden furniture, iron columns, cream panelled walls and exposed duct work on the ceilings. The floor is dark, slate grey, designed to echo the cobbled street outside.
With its enviable location under a stunning colonnade, it will become a haven for those who love al fresco dining during the summer months.
The restaurant seats 70 people and has an intimate, friendly feel like its sister restaurant. It will be the perfect place to go to enjoy great food, fantastic service and good conversation.
During the week, The Potted Hen opens at 10.30am, serving deliciously creamy hot chocolate, flavoured coffees and speciality teas. It is the perfect place to enjoy a well deserved mid-morning break or hold an informal meeting.
Lunch begins at 12 noon and ends at 3pm, while dinner is from 5pm to 10pm. On Sundays the restaurant is serving 12 noon through to 9pm so you can relax and take it easy while the Children Eat Free. Appropriately, one of the signature starters is Dermot's delicious 'Potted Hen' Chicken Liver terrine served in a stylish glass Kilner jar.
