Top 100 Attractions Review

When I wrote my first edition of the Top 100 Attractions in Wales book, I have to say with a red face that the Wales Ape and Monkey sanctuary went completely under my radar. Had I of known about this place back then, I would have featured them in my last book in a heartbeat. Ok, the site may not be as big as Longleat or Knowsley Safari Parks, but Jan & Graham are the ones they call when they need a home for such an animal, and their love for all things primate is second to none. Just talking to one of the co founders Jan, I could clearly see that she is not only very passionate about these wonderful creatures, but they are hers and her husband Graham's life! They have dedicated their entire life to provide a wonderful home environment for each and every primate resident here at the sanctuary, and I urge you to pay them a visit.

Wales Ape & Monkey Sanctuary

Attraction in Swansea Valley

Wales Ape & Monkey Sanctuary

We are located in the lovely Brecon Beacons National Park area of South Wales. The Park has been officially designated as a Geopark because of its unique geological formations. Formerly a traditional Welsh hill farm, the sanctuary now rescues and provides a home for many types of unwanted animals. especially primates, such as chimpanzees, baboons, spider monkeys, capuchins and marmosets. Visitors are welcome to see the animals and the work we do. We undertake a number of rescues from zoos and laboratories where animals have suffered mistreatment and deprivation or are no longer wanted. As they are not equipped for survival in the wild we can only endeavour to make the rest of their lives as enjoyable and stress free as possible. We have always been encouraged by the support that we receive from the public, but this year has been especially gratifying. Not only have more visitors come to see our animals, but they have been generous with their praise for the work we do .
