Connemara Smokehouse
Review
“Now fore and aft keep hauling, and gathering up the clew, til a silver wave of salmon rolls in among the crew.” W. Allingham.
Connemara Smokehouse sends tendrils of enticing aromas, out across the countryside, mesmerizing all who come near to Ballyconneely in County Galway. One of Ireland’s oldest traditional smokehouses: situated right on the waters edge at Bunowen Pier; Connemara Smokehouse is owned by the wonderful Roberts family, who have crafted the very finest traditionally-smoked, wild Atlantic seafood for three generations. Hugely passionate about using the purest fish from crystal blue Atlantic waters, the family recipes and time-honoured beechwood smoking methods, have been handed down to husband and wife team Graham and Saoirse Roberts. They run tasting experiences, which must be booked providing lucky customers with the world’s finest smoked seafood. The original kiln, fondly dubbed ‘Old Smoky’still holds pride of place in the smokehouse too: delicately permeating the air with unique and distinctive beechwood tones.
