Corrib Princess
The Corrib Princess is a family business operated by Tom and Kathleen McDonagh. Corrib Tours began operating cruises on the river and Lough Corrib in 1989, however it was not until 1991 that the current boat, the Corrib Princess, was custom built in Rathcairn, Co Meath, and transported by road to Woodquay. This boat was built with panoramic large windows and upper deck to ensure that passengers enjoy the spectacular views as they cruise the river and lake.
The Corrib Princess is used by Tour operators who bring groups to Ireland that travel on buses; they include a cruise on Lough Corrib as part of their itinerary. The cruise is also available for corporate groups, school tours and active retirement groups, and “hen parties.” The Corrib Princess is easily accessible for visitors to Galway as it is just a few minutes walk from Eyre Square. The boat can be chartered in the evenings as a unique private venue and is very popular with sports and social groups, birthday celebrations, anniversary or other special occasions. Passengers can also enjoy delicious BBQs prepared on board by local restaurateur JP McMahon of Cava Outside Catering, followed by great entertainment by musicians such as Marc Roberts, Carmel Dempsey, Brenda Curtin and DJ Aidan Kenny. Good food, full bar service, and great entertainment makes your night on board he Corrib Princess a memorable occasion.
Rory Costello has been the Captain of the Corrib Princess for the past 20 years; he strives to make each cruise enjoyable and memorable for everyone. Manager of the Corrib Princess, Roísín Sweeney, who has been with the company for 19 years, joins groups on board treating passengers to Irish coffee demonstration, showing off the same skills that made her a champion two years ago when she won the all Ireland Powers Irish Coffee competition making her the first woman ever to win this title. She also encourages the group to get lively and dance with her, she teaches them the Siege of Ennis, a traditional Irish dance.
Other crew members including John, Keith and Seamus help to make the Princess Corrib a real day, or night, out for any type of occasion.
Review
The Corrib Princess really is a powerful tool in County Galway's sturdy tourism tool box. Made even better by its great team of staff that work not only onboard the vessel but also on land. This award winning attraction shows you a different side to Galway city and when you break out onto Lough Corrib the scenery is absolutely amazing. Passing castles and other interesting features you calmly make your way along the River Corrib at a relaxing speed. Ireland is known for its mythical lucky charm and If you're really lucky you may even get to witness the award winning Irish Coffee champion Roisin demonstrating her Irish Coffee making skills. Roisin isn't only an award winning Irish Coffee maker but is a very talented Irish Dancer, and if you ask her nicely she may ever show you a demonstration of a dancing kind.
