Hill of The O’Neil
Attraction in Co. Tyrone
Author's Review
When standing on the Hill of the O’Neill in Dungannon, it is possible to see seven of the nine counties of Ulster from this ancient site, where Gaelic Ireland ruled for over 300 years. Little wonder that this spot was chosen was chosen by rulers, noblemen and armies as a stronghold from which to rule. These incredible views can be taken in from a new glass viewing tower (with an event space) while also visiting artwork depicting the mythological history of Dungannon. On tour you will learn about the history of the powerful rise of Hugh O’Neill who’s dynasty left a lasting legacy, the story of the Flight of the Earls and how it paved the way for the Plantation of Ulster, as well as tales of skeletons and escape tunnels and a hidden well that served as a hiding place during many a siege. A rich and rewarding visit.
