Killarney Racecourse is located in the town of Killarney, one of Ireland's most popular tourist destinations.Killarney Racecourse is without doubt Ireland's Most Scenic Racecourse and possibly the World's. With the magnificent McGuillycuddy Reeks, Lakes of Killarney and Ross Castle providing the backdrop, the view as the horses pass the finishing line can only be described as breathtaking.Each year Killarney hosts 11 days of racing split over three Summer Festivals. The three day May meeting opens the season and the season builds towards the four day July meeting. This festival is one of the highlights on Ireland's social calendars and is one of the best days out during the summer season. Our racing season closes with the August four day meeting; this meeting marks the beginning of the National Hunt season proper with many of Ireland's top National Hunt horses reappearing during our four day festival.Killarney Racecourse combines the very best of horse racing with a fantastic festival atmosphere.

Review

Despite Ireland having many, I haven’t chosen that many of the countries racecourses to be featured as part of my Top 100 Attractions in Ireland line up. Killarney has been chosen because not only does it have a great atmosphere, but the sheer beauty that backdrops this course is truly breathtaking. Horse racing has taken place here in Killarney since 1822, and although the month of July is a big month for all race goers, the course has three good months of racing from May, through to August each and every year. Killarney also has another unique offering and that is its state of the art golf course, which takes centre stage smack bang in the middle of the racecourse. Although I am not a huge horse racing fan, I had a wonderful experience on the day that I was here, and after winning 4 races out of the whole days race card, I don’t call that a bad day after all!
