National Museum Cardiff houses amazing collections of art, natural history and geology - all under one roof! Wales's
National Museum of Art, on the first floor, shows work spanning the last 500 years and includes Old Master paintings, one of Europe's best collections of Impressionist works, and new galleries for the display of Modern and Contemporary art, which opened in July 2011.
Downstairs the Natural History galleries are home to dinosaurs, woolly mammoths, a real piece of moon rock and a huge variety of plants, insects and animals from Wales and across the world. A changing programme of temporary exhibitions and events takes place throughout the year. Details are on the website.
Whether you're into art, natural history or geology, National Museum Cardiff has the lot! The Museum is one of the most unique in Wales, let alone the United Kingdom, and its range of arts and science displays are absolutely world-class. The museum's art collection includes work by Poussin, Turner, Monet, Van Gogh, Picasso and Hockney to name a few. The Evolution of Wales and Natural History galleries are all here waiting for you to discover. Then there's the Clore Discovery Centre, where you can get hands on and explore the collections up close. You'll need a full day here and it's all totally free! Now that's what we call value for money! Normally I would say half a day would be enough to visit most museums, but not National Museum Cardiff, I would say you will need at least 5 hours to see everything.
