Newburgh Priory Estate
Attraction in North Yorkshire
Author's Review
Newbury Prior Estate is located on the edge of the undulating Howardian Hills, near to the beautiful village of Coxwold. Once an Augustinian Priory, then the private family home of the Bellasis, it is now occupied by Stephen Wombwell and his family. His efforts to evolve and diversify the estate while maintaining its natural beauty and unique character are noticeable and admirable. The estate is open throughout the summer months to the public, as well as being a popular wedding venue. The house is a mix of architectural styles, mostly Tudor in origin, with some Georgian remodelling. The estate boasts a water garden, a walled cottage garden, woodland walks, a large lake, and sports magnificent views sweeping across the lake to the White Horse of Kilburn. The Kitchen Tearoom is open for guests to indulge in home-baked goods and a fine brew, while sitting surrounded by the beautiful Long Gallery ruins.
