Oriel Môn
Since opening in 1991 Oriel Môn near Llangefni has established itself as one of Wales's leading art venues. The contemporary spaces showcase the work of well-known and emerging artists whilst the Kyffin Williams gallery shows the work of one of Wales's best loved artists and regularly provides an opportunity to view the work of other famous individuals from private and national collections. Celebrated as one of the greatest wildlife artists of the 20th century the largest collection of work by the multi-talented Charles Tunnicliffe is held at the Oriel.
The museum which includes the Discovery Den gives an introduction to Anglesey's history. With regular children and adult workshops, talks and events, a well-stocked shop and a busy café there is something for everyone.
Review
This new edition of the Top 100 Attractions in Wales book is even bigger and better than before, mainly down to the great attractions that are featured within its pages. One of those great attractions and one that is absolutely huge on Anglesey, is that of Oriel Môn, and in Welsh, Oriel means gallery. This purpose built, bright and modern building is really reflective of the type of art you can expect to find here. Despite being a modern building, Oriel Môn n has a certain warmth about it, and this certainly has the gallery staff to be thankful for. All of Anglesey's culture and heritage through art is based within its walls and no visit is complete without taking a break in its well stocked Blas Mwy café, translated into English, Blas Mwy simply means ‘more flavour' No matter your level of love for art, you will really enjoy your visit here.
