Breathtaking scenery and an abundance of wildlife makes RSPB Lake Vyrnwy a magical and unforgettable day out for the whole family. Enjoy stunning walks and trails around one of the most beautiful lakes in Wales. You might see and hear pied flycatchers and redstarts, while dippers nest by the lake and rocky streams. Great crested grebes and goosanders bob on the water, and above you ravens, buzzards and perhaps a peregrine can be seen soaring in the sky. You can also watch spring’s new arrivals being born on a trip to our organic farm. Children can explore our natural play area which has been specially developed using natural features from the RSPB Lake Vyrnwy estate to provide a unique play space to inspire children and their families with the beauty, brilliance and astonishing world of nature. There are log beams to walk on, tree stumps to jump from, bird’s nests to play in, branches and leaves for den building, a mud kitchen to cook tasty treats, and much more.

One of the few positives Lockdown provided us was the ability to hear more birdsong. So, as the dull thudding of traffic noise ceased a little, the dawn chorus increased. Our lucky ancestors took the beauty of nature's music for granted, but now only the fortunate few get to truly live in tune with birds. However, thanks to the awesome RSPB reserves, we can pack up our troubles and go visit our feathered friends in their natural habitats. Set amongst the remote and distinctive Berwyn Mountains, shimmering waterfalls and enchanting green countryside, RSPB Lake Vyrnwy Nature Reserve makes a wonderful day out for all the family. A designated Site Of Scientific Interest, there is an abundance of beautiful bird life to enjoy.
