A modern take on an old tradition, seaweed bathing has enriched the lives of the people on this island for more than a century. In Victorian times hot seawater baths were all the rage. Farmers along the coast who used seaweed for fertiliser found handling the weed brought relief from hacks and other sores. At some point someone put two and two together and got MAGIC.

The SOAK Group extended its premises in 2008 adding the luxurious Soothe spa treatments rooms. The spa treatment rooms were purpose built with relaxation in mind. Each spa treatment room is equipped with warm oak wooden flooring, a music system, specialist therapy lighting and a large comfortable treatment couch.

Soothe spa therapists offer a wide range of health, beauty and holistic spa treatments. You can find a spa treatment to help most ailments with the extensive selection of spa treatments on offer. Throughout the SOAK group we believe in the power of nature to heal, balance and restore the body's natural balance. The undiluted use of nutrient and mineral rich seaweeds through our bathhouse is extended to "Soothe" spa with the use of seaweed based products.

During my time putting together these great travel guides I have visited a few of these seaweed baths, I have to say more of them are in Ireland than anywhere else. What really caught my eye with Soak though is its complete diversity as a business from not only being a great tourist attraction but also the treatment rooms, accommodation and also the tearoom aspect of this business are really run like a well oiled machine. Soak is open all year round and the total dedication of its owner is unparalleled really as most days he can be found on the beaches in the surrounding area collecting the very seaweed that would be used within your bath. Since the victorian times we have been enjoying a traditional seaweed bath, so from the minute you sit back and relax inside this beautiful traditional bathtub you will be transported back in time.
