The Bookshop is the largest second-hand bookshop in Scotland, with over a mile of shelving supporting roughly 100,000 books. The shop the oldest bookshop in Wigtown, Scotland’s National Booktown and our range of stock includes all subjects. Most days people bring books to the shop at a rate of about 100 a day on all subjects, but we also clear larger private collections. You know, your aunt gave it to you when you were a child and it had a red cover but you can’t remember the title or the author. It had a picture of a rabbit on the back. If we work out what it is and we tell you we don’t have it in stock, just keep telling us about it and we will, of course, magically make it appear from thin air.

Wigton is fast becoming one of the biggest book towns within the United Kingdom and there is one bookshop that is helping that dream become an even bigger reality, that shop being the aptly named ‘The Book Shop’ owned and ran by the popular author, Shaun Bythell. The Bookshop is the second largest of its kind in Scotland and as if it was straight out of the film Notting Hill, Shaun has been interested in books his whole life and it is no wonder that he has dedicated his life to making sure he has a book for everyone, so I defy you to try and find a book in his shop that you’re not interested in. Having rave reviews by his peers, Shaun is also becoming well known for his own book also ironically named ‘The Diary of a Bookseller’. So if your one of the billions of people around the world that is truly fascinated by books, no trip to Scotland is complete without a visit this charming little bookshop that will truly warm to your heart.
