Ruth Hinks is the UK World Chocolate Master and award-winning entrepreneur behind the insanely delicious chocolate brand, Cocoa Black. Thanks to starring roles on BBC The River, NatGeo’s Chocolate Covered and Channel 4’s Extreme Chocolate Makers, Ruth is no longer an inside secret known only to the world’s best pastry chefs. Her legion of fans includes members of the Royal Family, celebrities, and countless blissed-out chocolate lovers around the world. The Chocolate & Pastry School is easy to find in the centre of Peebles, in standalone premises on the right of the Parish Church at the end of the High Street. The school is right above the Cocoa Black boutique, with its own side entrance. Once inside The Chocolate & Pastry School, you’ll go up some stairs, and past the famous Cocoa Black chocolate hippos wallowing in their mud bath of cocoa beans – a small nod to Ruth’s South African origins! Your tutor will give you a warm welcome and a hot drink, and there’s a lounge next to the classroom where you can leave any valuables, browse recipe books, and meet your fellow classmates.

From half day classes, to Ruth’s Masterclass or even the popular ‘International Guest Chef’ classes, no matter what you decide, you’ll receive an experience like no other! Then there’s Ruth’s cafe and Chocolate emporium downstairs. This slick, fresh and spotless cafe, will make you feel like you’ve won Willy Wonka’s coveted golden ticket.
