Review

Having travelled to many counties throughout Britain and Ireland, I have uncovered and stayed in a huge amount of pubs and inns along the way. Few have impressed me as much as what the Haughmond Inn did. Having checked in quickly and easily, I was very courteously shown to my room, which I have to say impressed me no end. The bed was comfy, The room was well presented and the refreshments were more than adequate for the length of my stay and I’ve always said it’s the little things that people remember the most, so for me, the inclusion of the coffee in a bag rather than just in a sachet, I was really impressed with.

Knowing about how good the food was here this pub, I speedily got changed and went downstairs for dinner. Without any hassle I was shown to my table and after being asked what I would like to drink, very quickly a drink arrived. Sometimes in pubs the menu can be quite long and tiresome with too many choices, this was in no way the case here at the Haughmond. The menu was simple, well put together and you would have trouble finding something that didn’t suit you.

Going for loin of cod was for me quite an easy choice as I really love fish and with what accompanied this dish, I felt would be adequate enough for me. In relative terms, given the fact that my dish was freshly prepared, I think the small amount of time that I waited for my food, was more than appropriate.
I found the food to be tasty, enough of it and not pretentiously put together, for me it’s all about the presentation. The owner/ chef Martin really does know his stuff and his team are clearly just as talented as he is. Without overkill I don’t think there is much more I can say about the food apart from the fact that if I lived locally I would eat at the Haughmond every night of the week! Finally and whilst I’m talking about the food, across the courtyard from the pub is a cute little cafe/ deli, which is also owned and ran by the owners of the pub.
All in all I had a great experience at the Haughmond and one that I won’t forget in a hurry. Having now stayed in there twice I’m already planning my third trip back!
