The National White Water Centre

Attractions

The National White Water Centre is set on the banks of the River Tryweryn, near Bala. The Tryweryn is dam controlled ensuring great water conditions all year round and the centre prides itself on providing the best white water rafting experiences in the UK. The NWWC pioneered commercial rafting in the UK in 1986 and remains the country's most popular white water rafting destination. Experience the thrill of the Tryweryn for yourselves, with rafting sessions ideal for groups, individuals and families, as well as the brand-new tandem kayak and canyoning sessions.

The National White Water Centre is internationally recognised as a centre of excellence for paddle sport. The River Tryweryn has been used for kayaking and canoeing since the mid-70's and has hosted 3 canoeing world championships and numerous international competitions. By the mid 1980's rafting equipment had developed to a standard which could withstand the rigours of white water rafting on the world championship course. And so the first commercial rafting operation in the UK was established 25 years ago offering the adventurous with their first taste of white water on the rapids of the Tryweryn.

If you don't fancy getting on the water this time, we have extensive riverside trails around the centre which allow you to enjoy the splendour of the surroundings and a riverside café where you can grab some lunch and chuckle at your family or friends as they zoom past you in their raft!

For a more relaxed view of the river, take a walk along the delightful Tryweryn Trail as you explore mossy oaks and delicate willows in this magnificent setting. Or simply enjoy a warming cup of tea in the new riverside cafe; Caffi Celyn as you watch your friends and family whizz past you!
