The Old Rectory

Accommodation

The Old Rectory has been sensitively and stylishly refurbished to a high standard with full en-suite facilities, by the owners Lynda & Colin Masefield. The couple have extensive experience in the hospitality industry and guests are assured of a warm welcome and friendly service.

A full English Breakfast using locally sourced produce is in included in the rate. Free WiFi is available throughout the property, we also have a PC in the reception area which is available for guest usage. There is a small library of local books and maps for your use during your stay.

Chicklade is a small hamlet and there are 2 excellent local pubs within a mile, both serving restaurant and bar meals.

The Old Rectory is an ideal venue for “family get togethers”. Walkers and cyclists are also very welcome, as we are on the Dorset and Wiltshire borders, with The Great Ridge Walkway being close to the property.

It offers a great base to explore local attractions, Stonehenge, Longleat and Salisbury or to break your journey whilst travelling to and from the West Country.

We have ample private off road parking and can accommodate large trailers and horseboxes with given notice. Bicycles can be kept securely undercover in our walled garden. The reception area has a book corner, with a library of guidebooks and a good supply of up to date brochures for the most popular and famous tourist attractions, which are a short drive from The Old Rectory. We offer free WiFi and the use of a PC in the reception area. The mature gardens have seating which our guests are more than welcome to use.

Review

I think it's worth mentioning at this stage that not one of the accommodation providers that get featured within any of our books pay any advertising fees whatsoever. They are all chosen by an independent researcher who has a vast amount of experience in both the hotel and restaurant trade and we take the choosing of our accommodation and all of our restaurants very seriously. They are selected purely on merit, for a number of different reasons, however visitor experience and value for money remain paramount to me. A huge amount of work goes into the choosing of our accommodation simply because our reputation counts on it, and what have you got if you don't have reputation?

After my overnight stay at The Old Rectory I have to say that I was hugely impressed. It all starts with the welcome for me, and a huge welcome is what you get from both of it's owners Lynda & Colin, and after what can so sometimes be a long journey, this can be much needed. I was given my key and shown up to my room, and for a B&B I couldn't get over the size of the room allocated. This ensuite double room wasvery comfortable and impeccably clean.

After settling in nicely I went into the local village for a bite to eat at a pub that Polly my researcher had also chosen and features in the Wiltshire restaurant section. Upon returning to the Old Rectory, I was greeted by the owners who proceeded to ask if I fancied a hot chocolate… how could I possibly resist! After what turned out to be the best nights sleep I'd had in 6 days travelling, I headed downstairs for a wonderful breakfast of 'Poached Eggs & Smoked Salmon' with great coffee, true breakfast heaven! The owners obviously put enormous importance on sending their guests on their way not feeling hungry!

Lynda and Colin are great hosts. The Old Rectory is just a short

drive to attractions such as Stonehenge, Longleat and Stourhead The Old Rectory is also an ideal base to visit the Medieval City of Salisbury and the beautiful Roman city of Bath

A true hidden gem!
