The Royal Mint Experience
Take a tour and see behind the scenes of one of the UK’s most fascinating attractions when you enter the Royal Mint Experience. First you will enter the factory where so much of the UK’s money is made. This isn’t just a show put on for visitors—the silver and gold streaming off the belts at the rate of 750 coins a minute will enter circulation and could be the pocket money your child gets next weekend! Here, for a fee, you and your family can strike your own coins or have your photograph taken next to caskets full of money. After your factory tour, head to the interactive experience where you can explore 6 zones explaining the Royal Mint’s history, how coins and medals are made, coin collecting and even superstitions about money. You can learn why coins are put into Christmas pudding and why brides are traditionally meant to have silver sixpences in their shoe. Kids will be fascinated by all the ways money is used that doesn’t include using it in shops!
Review
Very few people actually know, let alone wonder where on earth all that spare change within your pockets and purses actually comes from, or at least, I didn’t anyway up until recently. That was until I came across one of Britain’s Biggest and shiniest hidden gems that is the Royal Mint Experience. Open 7 days a week, this attraction has a huge amount to offer, in both historical and educational terms and I was completely bowled over at how many rare and significant artefacts that are on display here. The staff are really friendly and go a million miles to make sure your visit is one that you’ll really enjoy and if your visit is anything like mine, never forget. Also, a little tip, whilst your in the gift shop, why not bag yourself a bargain with one of their limited edition coins, believe me, they could be worth a pretty penny some time in the future, excuse the pun!
