Review

“Here I come to the water’s edge, where the Shannon meets the sea, runs and ripples with the stirring, reflecting the sky darkly.” B. McMullen.

Something wonderful stirs along the quayside of Athlone Castle, in the shape of a dramatic Viking Ship, which takes passengers on a tour of discovery, based in Athlone, County Westmeath. Captain ‘Viking Mike’ stands at the helm, and runs two main sailing routes down the River Shannon to Lough Ree and Clonmacnoise. Listen to the fascinating stories on Viking hoards, whilst relishing the dazzling beauty of the river, which is abundant with gorgeous wildlife. Spend some quality time together, aboard this awesome, brightly coloured vessel, where you can enjoy a little drink or two: beer, wine, cocktails and light snacks and have a laugh, (especially the dressing up as a Viking bit!) Nice and comfy, with a laid back relaxed atmosphere, the ship itself is almost 100 years old, so you’ll be jumping aboard history too!
