Glamorgan's Coast & Countryside

Home to the most Southerly point in Wales, people have been visiting and living in the Vale of Glamorgan and its surrounding areas for 200,000 years now and once visited, it’s not hard to see why! Still, not without seeing its share of hard times however, that hasn’t stopped this area becoming a fantastic tourist destination. I think the fact that the BBC has filmed two series of its hit show ‘Being Human’ coupled with ‘Gavin & Stacy’ also being filmed in the seaside town of Barry, only goes to show that this area of Wales really has got what it takes to pull the tourists in from further and wider areas. The outstanding yellow-grey cliffs on the Glamorgan Heritage Coast which stretches in-between Llantwit Major to Ogmore by the Sea are unique only to the Celtic seaboard (Cornwall, Wales, Ireland and Brittany) as they’re formed of Liassic limestone - totally unique for a Celtic nation.

They were formed 200 million years ago when Wales (as well as Cornwall and Ireland) lay below a warm, shallow, equatorial sea during the start of the Jurassic period. Today the cliffs contain elements of Jurassic age sea-creatures (although not land dinosaurs - the Celtic nations were all underneath the sea), such as ammonites. I do not think you need any more convincing that the Vale of Glamorgan has its fair share of stories, places to see and things to do than any other place in Wales. What makes this place so unique however is its versatility to be a great place of history, an amazing outdoor pursuit’s area, or just simply somewhere to unwind and take it all in! Whatever you choose to do, Glamorgan has to be on your itinerary of places to visit whilst visiting the great country of Wales.

Princess Royal Theatre
Princess Royal Theatre
The impressive Princess Royal Theatre is a multi-purpose venue situated in Neath Port Talbot.Events include the annual pantomime, professional and amateur shows,The Princess Royal Theatre is located within the Port Talbot Civic Centre and I have to say that this impressive building does not disappoint. The theatre is formed in one of the wings of the civic centre and hosts many famous headline acts and some not so famous, but one thing you can always be assured of, is a great show. The theatres designers thought of everything when designing this theatre and their disabled facilities are second to none. I know this isn’t one of the usual Victorian theatres of days gone by, but this is a theatre for the next generation, with excellent facilities and having said all that, the theatre prices for a lot of their shows are very reasonably priced also. On the day I visited, I found the staff to be very friendly, helpful and I can say with some vigour, that if this theatre was in my area, I’d be there all the time! ...
